Looking forward/stakeholder engagement
The EIA and servitude acquisition process gives Eskom an opportunity to learn more about the communities in which we operate. It is through these highly interactive processes that we get to learn about how to improve our relationships, satisfy our customers’ needs, identify areas of improvement, and maximise on the resources available to us.
We will, therefore, continue to engage with the public and request their full participation for EIA authorisation and servitude acquisition. We understand that all stakeholders involved, interested and affected, are in partnership with Eskom to ensure that the energy crisis is sorted out in this country. As a result, we have put in place various initiatives that will ensure that our relationship with the interested and affected parties is improved. Examples of such initiatives include the following:
- Early involvement of all stakeholders during the planning stages of our projects. The public will have a view of our future development plans and will have an opportunity to give inputs and comments.
- We will also announce and publicise all our proposed projects early enough to the communities involved.
- Furthermore, we will actively engage with various national and provincial statutory bodies, NGOs, agricultural unions, and other organisations to raise awareness about planned projects and proposed implementation plans, solicit support for all current projects and future projects, and influence their strategic development plans.
- Lastly, we endeavour to improve our communication media and feeding of information to our customers.
We believe that early involvement of all stakeholders will increase the success rate of our projects. In this way, we hope to reach as many people as possible and create awareness of our projects. |
